I really love the outdoors, especially the wilderness. One of the things I find the most challenging about living in the Bay Area is being in a big city and near other people all of the time. I was feeling like I needed a little break from the city and started researching backpacking trips near San Francisco. Well, it turns out that there is a nearby open space with a backpack-in camp that had an available permit.

I jumped on it, and did a quick one-night solo backpack trip.

I had a hard time handling the world this week. This latest mass terrorist attack in Istanbul has me heartbroken and frightened. I need time to process.

Thankfully we had a quiet weekend dogsitting planned so I had time to breathe and be away from news feeds.

Onur and I are on apartment number eight, in our four years together. There is one thing for sure, we are highly skilled at packing and moving and have out of necessity built a more minimalist lifestyle than we would have otherwise.

As my longtime readers know, we met, and lived together for a year in beautiful Bozeman, Montana.

I was animal sitting for the weekend but Onur had two nights of events up in Berkeley so I got some solo time, which was actually really nice. Ended up catching up with a girlfriend over a couple glasses of wine in Palo Alto. However the wine bar was not really my scene, I don’t think I’d go back there.

Hours of sleep in last 24: 8

We woke up at 3am to drive from Çıralı to the Antalya airport to fly up to Istanbul. The plan for our 48 hours in Istanbul was to a) see all the ‘must see’ sights and b) catch up with some old friends. Both were well accomplished.

Istanbul // Do All Things With Love

Let’s be real here – Turks are the best at food. Istanbul was bursting with restaurants and confection shops of all kinds. Most of it was really good, some of it was mediocre. I think I got spoiled though because I started my trip in Gaziantep, which is like the culinary hot spot and is known across Turkey as having the very best food. Anyways, I am starting this post stating that I am completely biased toward liking Gaziantep food more.
