I really love the outdoors, especially the wilderness. One of the things I find the most challenging about living in the Bay Area is being in a big city and near other people all of the time. I was feeling like I needed a little break from the city and started researching backpacking trips near San Francisco. Well, it turns out that there is a nearby open space with a backpack-in camp that had an available permit.

I jumped on it, and did a quick one-night solo backpack trip.

The day consisted of: delicious breakfast, exploring ruins, shopping, beach, ice cream, shopping, grilled fish dinner. So a pretty typical Thursday (jk).

So, remember how I mentioned yesterday that this village we are staying in is pretty rural? Well, we woke up this morning without water or electricity. Typically the water is solar heated (meaning cold showers before 12pm). This is our second time without power since we arrived but the lack of water was far more concerning.

One of the few things we did not do on our last trip that Onur really wanted to do was go on a boat tour. We finally made that happen and I’m so glad we did, it has been my favorite part of the trip so far!

This weekend we got to dogsit for a new family in Portola Valley. They have two gorgeous malamutes and a beautiful spot on a hill. So we headed to Palo Alto on Thursday after work and I got to work remotely Friday.

It has been a shamefully long time since I posted. I enjoy writing but psych myself out about being judged by the internet. I know, I’ve talked about that before but dang. Anyways, I realized that I enjoy keeping this blog because it helps me remember fun things and times in my life and that’s important to me. So here goes a better effort to document the things I want.

This weekend was pretty quiet. I spent Friday working remotely from Palo Alto so that I could catch up with some former colleagues in between emails. I was animal sitting for the weekend but Onur had two nights of events up in Berkeley so I got some solo time, which was actually really nice. Ended up catching up with a girlfriend over a couple glasses of wine in Palo Alto. However the wine bar was not really my scene, I don’t think I’d go back there.
