I really love the outdoors, especially the wilderness. One of the things I find the most challenging about living in the Bay Area is being in a big city and near other people all of the time. I was feeling like I needed a little break from the city and started researching backpacking trips near San Francisco. Well, it turns out that there is a nearby open space with a backpack-in camp that had an available permit.

I jumped on it, and did a quick one-night solo backpack trip.

This weekend we got to dogsit for a new family in Portola Valley. They have two gorgeous malamutes and a beautiful spot on a hill. So we headed to Palo Alto on Thursday after work and I got to work remotely Friday.

Dear readers,

I suppose from time to time it is normal for priorities to shift and evolve, and thus I have fallen out of blogging. Not mindfully, but due to other priorities taking a front-seat in my life. It has been a joyful year since we last checked in! Things are going well, including some wonderful career growth, fun activities, and lots of fun with our friends.

We will be doing to some travel blogging this week, as we vacation abroad for the first time in many years! Stay tuned for our musings on kültür (culture) and serüven (adventuring) abroad.

Below are some snapshots from the past months …

Santa Cruz // Do All Things With Love

Santa Cruz Boardwalk

While we were camping last weekend, we decided to drive up to Santa Cruz for an afternoon. It was a weekend, so the Boardwalk area was packed. This isn’t even full summer tourist season and it was late afternoon, most people had left for the day, and it was still this crowded.

Absaroka Mountains // Do All Things With Love

This weekend was my last in Montana, so Onur and I decided to take a little vacation.  Due to car problems we rented a really awesome car (talk about luxury!!) Drove down to Chico Hot Springs in Paradise Valley, stayed on Friday night and then spent Saturday exploring in Yellowstone.

Life here is so good.  My work is fun, I am getting to explore beautiful country, and I am starting to settle into the community.

Late Nights
There is more tango than I originally expected here and I’ve found a handful of dancers who are both high level and extremely nice to work with.  I’ve been dancing two to three nights per week, and last week there was a big milonga in Bozeman that brought in dancers from Missoula, Billings and Helena.  So many late nights!  It’s a half hour drive home after the dances, but just like any self-respecting tango dancer I will always choose sleep-deprivation in favor of dancing when possible.  I have been asked to help teach a six week beginning tango class series in town.  It really is a huge complement to be welcomed into the community this way.

Bison

Over the three day weekend I went back into the park to check out Lamar Valley – one of the best places to view wildlife in the park!  In one day I saw two grizzly bears, tons of elk, white-tailed deer, a coyote, lots of bison, pronghorn, a whole herd of bighorn sheep, and some small ground critters which I have yet to identify.  Read on for more photos!
